Choosing the Right Hardware

Choosing the right hardware for your dog is important. We offer a variety of types to cater for your dogs needs.

Nickel

Our most basic hardware. Silver in colour and inexpensive. This is suitable for most dogs, however the hardware is not waterproof so should not be exposed to water. Nickel also has a lower breaking strength than stainless steel, so if your medium-large dog pulls on the leash we recommend upgrading to stainless steel (or brass).

Brass

Gold in colour and stronger than nickel, this hardware is suitable for use in water. Brass does, however, tarnish over time when exposed to oxygen, therefore needs regular polishing with a brass specific polish (or some lemon juice/tomato sauce has also been known to work). Brass will tarnish faster in saltwater.

Stainless Steel

Our strongest hardware with the greatest breaking strength. Silver in colour and suitable for use in any environment including saltwater. Stainless steel is great for large breed dogs or those that pull on the leash. It is also recommended for reactive dogs. Due to its quality, it is quite expensive to source.

Antique Brass

Antique brass is another one of our basic hardwares. Despite being brass, it is not suitable for use in water as it will rust quite quickly.

Black

Black hardware is suitable for most dogs however not suitable for use in water. Due to its coating, the black will wear off over time depending on use.
